In this activity students will learn to count up
to 10. Pupils won’t be taught through flashcards; instead, they will learn by doing.
In this way, by using the Total Physical Response method (TPR), pupils will listen,
watch and associate the new vocabulary with a concrete gesture. They will learn
holistically.
The selected song is: ‘Let's count 1 to 10’
Once
students have learnt the foreseen vocabulary, we are ready to do a set of activities
that will be focused on the new words acquisition.
- “Classroom touch”
In this activity the teacher will be in charge
of ruling the task. In this way, he/she will shout out classroom objects for
the kids to run to and touch. For instance, if the teacher says: - touch three
books- students will have to run and touch the three objects. For a better
understanding of the activity, the teacher should model it at first.
A good idea is to prepare some pictures of
different items in order to review the vocabulary that will be used during the
lesson. For example: table, scissors, chair, ruler, etc. Through this task
kinetic learners will have the opportunity to assimilate the new words easily.
- "Put it in the box"
The purpose of this activity is to practice the
numbers we are teaching. In this way, the teacher will display different materials
such as: pencils, rubbers, rulers, pens... all around the classroom. Later on,
he/she will choose different students and they will have to pick up the exact
number of objects they have been told to and put them into a box. For example,
if the teacher says: -pick up three
pencils- a pupil will have to walk around the class in order to find
three pencils. Finally, the student will have to put the three objects into a box.
- "Find the pair"
In this task students will review the numbers
that they have learnt through all the previous activities. Pupils will play this
incredible game by matching the identical pairs. Each time they click on an
image, they will have to say the number aloud. In this way, the teacher will
ensure that all pupils have learnt the foreseen vocabulary.
Hi Mireia!!
ReplyDeleteI am writing your first post in your blog. I really like the designe of the blog beacuse it´s related with books and learning tools and colors are very happy!!
In the other hand, I don´t know why but your first post about numbers 1 to 10 it´s very simple because we can´t see any resource and the link of this photo don´t share this photo with nothing.
I suppose that you are working in that and I am sure that your blog will be great because your designe is really good!!!
Kind regards!!
Aimar Aguirre Totoricaguena

Hi Mireia,
ReplyDeleteI really like the activities provided in this post. As you said, it is very important to learn by doing. So, it’s great that kids experience the vocabulary instead of you telling them the words again and again. Children love dancing and singing and with the song they have the opportunity to do it at the same time as they are learning the numbers. The activities that you proposed are motivating and attractive for kids and they play an active role during the tasks. I’m sure that children will have so much fun while carrying out the games and activities explained here.
As regards to your blog, the template chosen is appealing for kids and the colours are also appropriate. Good job!
Kind regards,
Maite Martín de Vidales Huarte
Hi Mireia,
ReplyDeleteI really think you blog is very developed and it seens very organized, maybe also the botton helps it.
I have some doubt about the word “holistically” which you use at the beginning of this entry, could you explain this please? I don´t understand exactly that in the text.
Thank you so much
Eva Pueyo Berges
Good afternoon!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, thank you for all your comments.
Eva, ‘holistically’ means to learn a language in an integrated way. Not separately.
Kind regards!
